Longtime Alaskan resident, Cara Lue Lilly, 89, passed away peacefully on August 29th at home. A graveside service will be held at Pioneer Cemetery on Saturday, September 4th at 3:45pm. A potluck will follow the graveside at the residence of John Lilly, 2471 E Kates Drive, Wasilla, AK 99654.

Ms. Lilly was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Ellis G. Fulk and Gladys R. Fulk. (Dillon).

She attended Sumner High School, graduating in 1951. This would have been her 70th HS reunion. She never missed a single day of school from first grade through twelfth grade graduation. Receiving an award for such a distinct accomplishment.

She married Robert Edward Lilly on June 8, 1957. Moving to Alaska, arriving in Fairbanks in September of 1959, then moving to Anchorage and finally Big Lake, totaling 62 years in AK.

She worked for Burlington Industries and Marion Lewis Bakery in NC. In Alaska, Alma’s Delicatessen, and was self-employed cleaning houses. She was also a cook and hostess at Lake Creek Lodge on the Yetna River and later at Alexander Creek Lodge on the Susitna River.

She was a longtime member of the Homemakers Anchorage and Wasilla extensions. She loved people and family most of all. She enjoyed yard work, cleaning and making everything sparkle and shine, spic & span! She was known for her southern cooking and exceptional baking skills. She won many ribbons for her entries in the cooking and baking contests and crafts at the Alaska State Fair.

She fished and hunted with her husband in the early years, once even shooting a black bear while working at Lake Creek Lodge. The bear kept returning and over-turning the outhouse repeatedly, so mother made sure to put a stop to that!

She loved garage sales, she eagerly enjoyed taking her grandsons to each one she could find.

There was always something cooking and coffee available in “Cara Lue’s” kitchen. Every child loved Cara Lue’s goodie bags.

She was the most generous and caring to all that she encountered over her entire lifetime.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara L. Brown (Paul Kahakua); two sons, John E. Lilly (Cynthia Yvonne), David Edward Lilly (Linda Sue); and grandchildren, David Bradley Lilly and Flora Jewel Lilly. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Ogie Fallin and Nancy Gutierrez; and brother, Mike Snyder; numerous cousins, friends and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, fourteen days prior to her earthly departure. Preceded by her brothers and sisters, Miles, Doug, Elzo, Larry and Joe and her twin brother Ivy, also by her beloved grandson, Robert Walter Lilly.

Flowers are entrusted to Legacy Funeral Home, Wasilla Heritage Chapel, or in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Alaska.
