Carol Edith McPherson

Carol Edith McPherson, 99 died on May 9, 2007, at Knik Manor in Wasilla, Alaska. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Anchorage Baptist Temple 6401 E. Northern lights. Dr. Prevo will be officiating at the service.

Mrs. McPherson was born on Dec. 25, 1907, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to William and Edith Norris-Greiss. In 1928 she married Walter McPherson in Chicago. She attendedbusiness college after graduating from high school. In 1996, she moved to Alaska, living in Anchorage prior to claiming her residency in Wasilla.

She was employed by a telephone company in Chicago in 1926 and she was also a dental assistant with her husband Dr. Walter McPherson when he first started his practice and then became a homemaker raising her three

children.

She was a member of the Valley Baptist Tabernacle as well as Anchorage Baptist Temple.

She received the Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Some hobbies she enjoyed were painting, flying, reading her bible, being with family, fishing, hunting and gardening. Her family stated, &#8220Walter and Carol moved to Roswell, N.M., where Walter became a dentist and cattle rancher. Carol ran a beautiful 16-room home. Carol lived life to the fullest. She was a pilot, fisherman, and hunter. During World War II Carol flew her Piper Cub delivering U.S. mail in New Mexico. Carol hunted and fished all her life. At 86 years old she was out Moose hunting. At 96 years she was still pulling in silver salmon down at Seward, Alaska. Carol was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended the Mormon Church with her daughter Lois until coming to Alaska. Carol attended the Anchorage Baptist Temple while living in Anchorage. Carol believed she would go to heaven to be with the Lord. Her favorite verse was Psalm 23. &#8220The Lord is my shepard, I shall not want.” Carol believes that Jesus died and rose for her so that one day she would be with Him in heaven. Carol was a very classy lady who died with dignity and grace. Her adventurous and generous spirit touched out lives and those around her in so many ways. She had a wonderful life and did everything she ever wanted to do. She was a wonderful mother and loved by everyone she met.”

Mrs. McPherson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Delbert and Virginia Brock of Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Jim and Lois Danielson of Hagerman, N.M.; son and daughter-in-law; Dr. Robert and Janet McPherson of Las Cruses, N.M.; 12 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter D. McPherson; parents, William C. Greiss; Edith Norris Greiss and brother, Richard Greiss.

She will be buried in Roswell, N.M., at South Park Cemetery with husband.

Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.

Ann D. Souter

Longtime Palmer resident, Ann D. Souter, 84, passed away in her sleep at Michael's Assisted Living home on May 4, 2007, in Palmer. She had been afflicted with increasingly severe Alzheimer's Disease for the past several years.

At her request no services will be held.

The eldest of eight children, she was born on June 10, 1922, in Norwich, Conn. and grew up in the nearby small town of Occum. In January of 1941 she married Milton H. Souter, Jr. and gave birth the following year to their only child. They lived in Kodiak, from 1952 until 1967 where she and her husband were active in the Eastern Star there, especially in youth-oriented activities.

She and her husband moved to Palmer in 1967. She enjoyed boating, gardening, reading, and motor-home traveling all over the United States and Canada. She was extremely bright and immensely enjoyed debating the issues of the day. She was an intensely devoted wife and mother and had many good friends. She is dearly missed.

She was preceded in death in February by her husband of 66 years, Milton, of Palmer, and leaves her son, Milton and daughter-in-law, Min of Anchorage, her sister, Estelle McCormick of Chugiak, her brother, Gerald Surprenant of Jewett City, Conn.. and numerous nephews and nieces.
