Catherine Mary Cizek, 89, died peacefully in her sleep Dec. 27, 2012, in Anchorage at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Sam Plancich. She was able to receive Holy Communion on Christmas Eve, and was surrounded by family and friends as they sang “Silent Night” at her bedside.
She was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Weyerhauser, Wisc. She was married to Clarence Cizek for 59 years and they lived most of their married life in Haugen, Wisc. As a couple, they moved to Alaska in summer 2006 to live with family. Though she didn’t live in Alaska for long, she always felt closer to Jesus because of the biblical references to mountains throughout scripture.
Throughout her life, she was the spiritual leader of the family. She encouraged her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to seek God and live a moral life. She showed the way by both instruction and example. Being a mother of nine children kept her in the home for most of her life. She also helped her husband manage a small dairy farm and worked outside the home for 10 years after her children were grown. Her passion was raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved gardening, dancing, socializing, fishing and the outdoors, all of which she enjoyed until months before she passed.
Surviving are her children, Audrey and husband Jim, Robert, Charles and wife Gail, Theresa, Mary and husband Tim, Carol and husband Sam, Mark and wife Wendy, Andrew and wife Kelley, and Joseph and wife Jennifer; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her infant daughter, Catherine; and husband, Clarence.
Her funeral service is set for 11 a.m., Jan. 4, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1201 E. Bogard Rd, Wasilla with Father Scott officiating.
Please remember her in your thoughts and prayers.
