Charles (Charlie) A. Mellin, 54, passed away June 18, 2013, due to health complications. Born in Anchorage on Dec. 22, 1958, he was a lifelong Alaskan. Charles graduated from Wasilla High School in 1977 and attended colleges in Alaska, Oregon, Arizona, Hawaii and New Zealand.
His passion in life were his dogs, which he had many of over the course of his life. They were his children. He enjoyed collecting artwork, guns, Native art and travelling the world. He worked construction in many Bush communities throughout Alaska over the years, where his love and respect for the Native people and their art was evident by the many pieces he purchased and collected. He was an exceptional carpenter and loved both building residential and commercial buildings and working with wood in general.
Never having had children of his own, he was “Uncle Charlie” to many kids he mentored throughout his life. Charles could be a complex person at times, but if you were his friend, he would do anything for you. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family and especially his sister Beverly, whom he grew up with.
His parents preceded him in death in 1999 and 2009. He leaves behind sister and brother-in-law, Beverly (Yukon) Tanner of Talkeetna and Wasilla; brother, Robert Mellin of Anchorage; sister, Barbara McNeil of Anchorage; as well as five nieces, two nephews, four cousins and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Charles A. Mellin may be made to Friends of Pets.
Cremation arrangements were provided by Legacy Funeral Homes.
