Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Charles Walter Chiritree, 66, died Nov. 21, 2010, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital.
Charles was born April 12, 1944, in Tampa, Fla. After high school, Charles joined the Navy and was medically discharged in 1963.
Charles made his way to Alaska in 1951, working at numerous places such as the pipeline at Prudhoe Bay, the Whitter tunnel, cutting trees, the Pioneer’s home and Woods Air in Palmer. He even worked on a fishing boat that went to Japan. Charles enjoyed reading about Alaska birds, making buttons out of Indian head nickels, fishing and camping on Pioneer Peak. He was also involved with Alcoholics Anonymous.
His family said Chuck was an animal lover. He also loved fishing, going to drag races and helping others in need.
Charles is survived by his mother, Teresa Dorman of Palmer; sister, Linda Woodfall of Palmer; daughter, Angelena Chiritree of Anchorage; and granddaughter, Jadelyn Chiritree of Anchorage.
A Celebration of Life is at 2 p.m., Dec. 26, at the train depot in Palmer. A potluck will follow.
