Charles “Chuck” Edward Embry passed away Feb. 21, 2015, at the Claremore Veterans Hospital, Claremore, Oklahoma, surrounded by family and friends.
Chuck was born Dec. 31, 1931, in Steubenville, Ohio.
He entered the U.S. Army at the age of 18 and served honorable for 22 years. He fought in the Korean War and completed two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was stationed at the Fort Richardson in Anchorage, when he retired in 1972 with numerous decorations.
After retiring from the U.S. Army, he worked in security and law enforcement. Then he learned a more peaceable way of life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He met his wife, the former Betty Smith, in Anchorage and they were married there Jan. 7, 1977. Together they forged a fulfilling life in the Anchorage and Palmer area. In more recent years, they lived parts of the year both in Vinita, Oklahoma, and Palmer.
Tall and aristocratic, Chuck’s broad smile exuded genuine warmth and people were drawn to him. Always thoughtful and kind, he often left loving notes for his wife to find during the day.
After retiring from the workforce in 1994, he spent much time sharing with others his hope of living forever in the peaceful conditions of God’s Kingdom under the rulership of Jesus Christ. He eagerly looked forward to that time when Jesus will resurrect those who have fallen asleep in death and all races will live together in harmony.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Lucille Reid; and a daughter, Lucille Embry.
Survivors include his adoring wife, Betty; son, Ronnie Embry; and step-son, Don Jennison of Vinita, Oklahoma; and grandson, Don Jennison Jr., who shared a special bond with Chuck, his wife, Brianne, and their two children, Blake and Bailey.
Cremation services were conducted by the Cremation Society of Oklahoma, Tulsa.
Memorial services are at 4 p.m., May 9 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 27956 S. 4410 Road, Vinita, Oklahoma.
