Longtime Houston, Alaska resident Charles “Chuck” Frederick Woods, 73 years old, passed away January 25, 2023, at his home. Chuck was born December 29, 1949, in Ruby, Alaska to Frederick Woods and Marie Hunter. He graduated from Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, Alaska, class of 1967.
Chuck resided in Houston, Alaska for the past forty years. He previously lived in Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska. He worked at the Houston Lodge as a right-hand man to the manager. While employed, he was famous for cooking the best prime rib on Friday nights to share with everyone. Chuck was smart and able to tinker with most things like opening a briefcase lock without the combination. He was an avid reader and loved western books with his favorite author being Louis L’Amour. He found darts to be his favorite hobby and competed in competitions in Alaska and Las Vegas, Nevada.
A celebration of life will be held at the Houston Lodge for Chuck on Sunday February 26th at 4 pm. Chuck’s ashes will later be brought to Rampart, Alaska to be spread alongside the Yukon River. Chuck is survived by his four sisters and two brothers, Claude Keogh of Galena, Alaska, Altona Rathbun and Lawrence Nichols of Anchorage, Alaska, Elaine Forbes of Las Vegas, Nevada, Priscilla Montanelli of Gilbert, Arizona, and Shirley Barnes of Greeley, Colorado. Chuck is also survived by his adopted family, Rosemary Burnett and relatives. He was preceded in death by Frederick Woods, Marie Hunter, Elizabeth “Cookie” Guinn, Gerald Woods, Irene Nichols, and Edward “Bobby” Hunter.
