Charles Eugene Neher Overton, 86, of Palmer, passed away March 23, 2015, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
He was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Mishawaka, Indiana. He attended high school in South Bend, Indiana, and continued his education in electrical, mechanical and civil engineering. His military service included the Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1947 and the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1952.
He married Lois June in 1949 and started a family. Charles and Lois moved to Alaska in 1969 and lived in Anchorage, Wasilla and Palmer.
Over the years, Charles worked for Convair/General Dynamics (NASA), Studebaker, Boeing, ITT Federal Electric and was a school bus driver in the Mat Su Valley where he received the School Bus Driving Safety Award for years of safe driving.
Charles spent many years square dancing with his wife. He loved trains and hot air balloons. He was a member of Palmer Pentecostal Church.
Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois June Neher; daughter, MaryLou Bailey and spouse; son, Mark Overton and spouse; eight grandchildren and their spouses; and 20 great grandchildren.
A memorial service is at 2 p.m., March 28 at Palmer Pentecostal Church, 235 W. Albrecht St., Palmer.
