Cherry Catherine Schenker, 67, died Aug. 8, 2012, at the Castle residence in Anchorage.

Cherry was born Dec. 22, 1944, in Seattle, Wash. She graduated from high school in 1962. She has been a resident of Alaska since the late 1960s. Cherry married Robert H. Schenker on Valentine’s Day 1971 in Anchorage. Her husband, Robert, was president of Calista Native Corp.

Over the years, she lived in Ketchikan, Wasilla, Mirror Lake, Anchorage and since 2001, Sutton. Cherry was employed as a certified professional secretary in labor relations with the Anchorage School District from 1979 until her retirement in 2001.

Cherry enjoyed gardening, cooking and arts and crafts. She won many blue ribbons at the Alaska State Fair for multiple vegetable categories, including tomatoes, zucchini, cauliflower and potatoes, and also in many flower categories.

Surviving are her sons, Shane Schenker and Rhone Schenker, both of Anchorage; grandson, Rhine Schenker of Anchorage; and sister, Glory Eddy of Seattle, Wash.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert.
