Christine Marie Holmberg passed away from natural causes on September 17, 2018 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Christine was born in Teller, Alaska on October 17, 1936 to Percy Blatchford, originally from Cornwall, England and Mae Herman from Shishmaref, Alaska. Christine was one of 13 children born to Percy and Mae.
Christine attended schools in Teller, Nome, Sitka and Seward before settling in Palmer, Alaska where she met and fell in love with Jay Holmberg. They were married on January 7, 1967 at Palmer. They honeymooned in Fairbanks with -50 degree temperatures. They raised two sons in Palmer, David Glen and Gary Rexford. She and Jay eventually settled in Cantwell where they worked the mine, The Golden Zone. Chris cooked and cleaned for the mining crews. She was known for her hearty homemade meals and desserts while keeping an impeccable kitchen.
Christine lived life fully, was graced with an incredible sense of humor and treasured family, friends and gatherings. She recently discovered facebook and loved keeping up with folks through it.
Christine is survived by her husband, Jay Holmberg of Cantwell, siblings Jack Blatchford (Peggy) of Anchorage, Sidney (Dawn) Blatchford of Anchorage, Henry Blatchford of Palmer, May Brandon of Anchorage, Marjorie Gagnon of Palmer along with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Mae Blatchford, sons, David Glen Hardage, Gary Rexford Hardage, sisters, Ruby, Dolly, Gloria, Grace and brothers, Tommy, Ernest, Percy, and Gene.
Upon Christine's request, no service will be held and her ashes will be spread at Colorado Station and Palmer.
