Wasilla resident Claire Barton, 71, died at Mat Su Hospital Oct. 7, 2010.
A memorial service is Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 4:40 p.m. at Kings Chapel, Wasilla Assembly Of God, 1703 North Lucille St.
Claire was born Oct. 26, 1938, in Washington, Penn., and moved to Alaska in 1978. She lived in Wasilla and Palmer for about 42 years.
She loved spending time with her family and friends and was committed to her faith in God. She practiced her faith at the Assembly of God in Wasilla.
Claire was extremely talented in many areas. Her art ranged from drawing to painting to creating worship flags and banners, to the most extraordinary cake decorating. Over the years, her work was shown and appreciated throughout the Valley and was widely recognized in the community. She also wrote; some memoirs, but mostly inspired writing. It was work that brought comfort and hope too many.
She was also involved in interpretative worship through dance. Claire played the harp, having had no formal training. She also spent much time in prayer and healing ministries and was active in several local churches. She willingly shared all she had and gave generously of her time, talents and finances. She was always willing to help whomever needed it.
“Claire Barton was a vibrant and charming woman who encouraged those around her by her joyous spirit and energy,” her family wrote. “Her laugh was infectious and drew those around her in. She was faithful to her family, friends and was a pillar of spiritual strength to all who met her. She was committed wholly to loving God and serving him with all of her heart. She spent her life sharing with everyone she came in contact with the love of Jesus, always encouraging those around her to trust in him and his feeling love. Clarie’s children and grandchildren knew she was always praying for them. Because of her example, all of her family and many friends, responded to Jesus call on their lives and received salvation.”
