Longtime Wasilla resident Clarence Otto “Andy” Anderson, 94, died Nov. 18, 2012, in his home while his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Anderson, held his hand.
Andy was laid to rest at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage Nov. 21 with full military honors. Pastor Stan Tucker officiated.
Andy was born on a farm Feb. 20, 1918, in Cope, Colo., to G.W. and Millie Anderson. Andy was a hard worker. He joined the U.S. Navy on Oct. 18, 1943, during World War II. He went on to serve his country throughout the Korean and Vietnam conflicts until he retired as a Chief on Nov. 27, 1967.
Afterward, he continued to work at NAS North Islands in San Diego, Calif., for 12 years as a civil servant until he retired in 1980. Andy and Shirley moved to Alaska in 1986 in order to be closer to their son, Paul.
Andy was a beloved father who enjoyed taking his two sons fishing and golfing; one of his proudest accomplishments was a hole-in-one while golfing in San Diego. Having lived a good, long life, Andy was able to influence many people with his humor and love of God, his family and his country.
