Claudia Jane Tierney
Claudia Jane Tierney passed peacefully at Harborview Manor in Wasilla, AK on April 23rd, 2022 at the age of 88. She was born to Claude & Jessie Merrill, on Feb 25th, 1934 in Seattle, WA. Claudia met and married Robert Tierney in the early 50’s. They moved to Oakland, CA and eventually welcomed their two daughters; Robyn and Suzan.
Claudia and Robert took their family to Alaska in the summer of 1967. She loved to share stories of their adventures driving up the Al-Can; camping and fishing along the way. While in Homer, Claudia got her first taste of Bingo and loved the game from that day on. She was an avid player; fondly referred to as the “Bingo Queen” by her family and friends.
Alaska made a mark on the Tierney family and they made arrangements to return and stay. They lived in Bethel for 1 year, where Claudia worked at the local mercantile, and later moved to Anchorage in 1969. Claudia worked in the banking industry for over 40 years and retired from the National Bank of Alaska (later Wells Fargo). She shortly realized she wasn’t ready to stay home, so she worked at AK USA for a number of years before eventually retiring again.
Claudia was an amazing Mother and wife; her family was always her priority. She was an exceptional Grammie and showered her 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren with endless love and support. Claudia was also an inspiring blood donator and received accolades from the Blood Bank of Alaska for her many gallons of life saving donations.
Claudia is predeceased by her parents and brother, as well as her husband Robert and daughter Robyn. She is survived by her daughter Suzan, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life is being held in her honor on Sunday, May 15th from 2-5pm in the Knik Manor common room at the Wasilla Senior Center (WASI). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to the Alaska Blood Bank are made in her name.
