Climate scientist to visit Alaska

Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, climate scientist and Texas Tech professor, will be in Anchorage on Sept. 11 and 12.

An evangelical Christian and director of Texas Tech University’s Climate Science Center in Lubbock, Dr. Hayhoe calls science and religion “two sides of the same coin.” She has served as a lead author for the last three U.S. National Climate Assessments.

In Anchorage, she will give two public lectures, Alaska’s energy future, how Alaskans can meet their energy needs and tackle climate challenges Sept. 11 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at Wendy Williamson Auditorium, UAA, 3211 Providence Drive.

Another session, Faith, Climate and Loving Our Neighbor, is Sept. 12 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Faith Christian Community Church, 4240 Wisconsin St.

There will also be a youth pizza party for high school and college-aged youth, on Sept. 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at Faith Christian Community Church, 4240 Wisconsin St.
