Alaskan and outdoorsman Clyde Allen Broumley, 71, died July 26, 2015, in his home.
A service is at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 901 E. Bogard Road, Wasilla.
Clyde was born April 19, 1944, in Medford, Oregon, to William Clyde and Georgianne Broumley. He was the oldest of five children. He graduated in 1962 from Mesa High School in Mesa, Ariz., and served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1972, after serving his two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
During his time in the Army, he earned both his helicopter and fixed-wing licenses. Clyde served two tours in Vietnam, earning the rank of Captain. Afterward, he flew for several helicopter companies and fell in love with Alaska while serving the exploration camps in Interior Alaska. He and his family moved to Alaska permanently in 1984.
After meeting and marrying Dottie — Dorothy Anne Carr — in 1990, they chose to participate in Alaska’s homestead program. They secured a homestead in “Bush” Alaska. With the help of family and friends, a cabin was built and a life together began, full of adventures as well as some misadventures. Clyde loved America and Alaska and the independence each gave; he loved the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a true disciple for the Lord. Serving in the church, he was the first to help anyone in need. He loved his family with a fullness of heart.
His family wrote: “He loved family, fishing, hunting, guns, gardening, chickens, bees, and always serving as needed.”
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law, Christine Page Pendergraft and Mike of Idaho; son and daughter-in-law, Nathaniel Wade Broumley and Roxanne of Palmer; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea Daniene Rhyner and Richard of Fairbanks; and daughter, Michelle Holliday of Willow; grandchildren, Antoinette Holliday, Jeffery Mook, Tel Nelson and wife Kylie; Wade Nelson and wife Kaelynn, and Shayla Nelson; great-grandchild, Bjorn Nelson; brothers, Daniel Broumley and Roy Broumley, and sisters, Lynn Johnson and Sue Broumley; nephew, Tony Limon and wife Shawna; niece Janell Lopez and husband David; nephews, Aaron, Neil, and Ken Broumley; and nieces, Shanon Gearhart, Sarah Sigler, Jeannie James and Thea Johnson. He was preceded in death by son, Michael Shay Broumley, in 2000, and granddaughter, Brittany Marie Langham in 2010.
