Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Big Lake resident, Concepción “Connie” “Weta” Perkins, 93, peacefully passed away, at home on March 26, 2018. She passed away enveloped with the love of her family. Connie was born December 8, 1924, in Mexico, to Marcelina and Zeferino Peralta. Connie and her first husband had three children, Robert, David and Teresa Gonzales. Perk mustered out of the Air Force, after serving in the Navy, and found his dance partner and love in Connie. They married on September 25, 1965, beginning their dance of love. Connie was known for her humorous quick wit and love of family, qualities that endured throughout her life. Everyone that met Connie found her endearing, often making her honorary family as she welcomed them into hers. She possessed the beauty and grace that lit up any room into which she walked. Connie’s family said, “Our Mom, our “Weta,” will be missed and remembered by multiple generations of family and friends who loved her like she loved, unconditionally and full hearted.” Connie was preceded by her husband, Jessie “Perk” Perkins; her son, David “Dirt” Gonzales; and her brother, Genaro Peralta. Connie’s surviving family includes children, grandchildren and their spouses, great grandchildren, sisters, and nieces. In Big Lake, Teresa “Teddy” Gonzales, Tom Fenner, Dana, Erick, Danielle, Rylee and Jayden Wilkerson; in Wasilla, Joe Sakis, Brandy, Nate, Cameron, Denali, Anna and Noah Whitted, Abe and Summer Sakis, Marcilena, David and Emmett Bedard; in Anchorage, Bev and Alicia Gonzales; in Kansas City, Rebekah and Kevin Kurz; in Pennsylvania, Carl, Maddy and Nikki Kurz; in Connecticut, Terry “Bear” and Cierra Gonzales; in Virginia, Fay and Mel Hall; in California, Celia Baltazar, Henrietta “Queta” Garibay, Mary Gonzales, Lilly Viveros, Brenda Viveros, Marcia Cajiga, and Frances Baltazar and many more extended family across the map. A Celebration of Life and Potluck will be held May 5th, from 2pm - 5pm, American Legion, Mile 46, Parks Highway in Wasilla. Connie’s cremated remains will be commingled with Perk’s for a military burial at JBER (where Perk worked as a civil servant) in Anchorage at a later date.
