Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Connie Nelson, 64, died Oct. 25, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Big Lake.
Connie was born July 9, 1948, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Henry Virginia Miller. She lived in Alaska for the last 14 years after moving up from Paradise, Calif. She raised her children in Minatare, Neb., with Tim Bowerson. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, loved the outdoors and was an avid rock hound.
“Connie was so kind, thoughtful and generous with her heart full of love for all,” her family wrote. “Her passing will affect the lives of many. May we all be at peace. She is asleep in Christ. Amen.”
Surviving are her husband, Bennett Nelson; daughter, Wendy (Jon) Fortner; sons, Tim Bowerson and Rodney (Rose) Bowerson; step-sons, Benjamin Nelson and Michael Nelson; sisters, JoAnne (Lee) Bowman, Diane (Agustin) Rosas, Linda (George) Naumis, Pat Marshall and Kathleen Miller; brothers, Tony (Donna) Miller, Ricky (Francis) Miller, Steve Miller and Marcus Miller; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
