PALMER — The Cooperative Extension Service in Palmer has planned two groups of classes in February and March.
First is a seven-class series on food preservation planned Tuesdays from Feb. 12 to March 26 at the Cooperative Extension Service, 809 S. Chugach St., Ste. No. 2, Palmer. Preregistration is required. Cost is $100 for the series, or $15 per class.
Classes are:
• Food Preservation Basics, 6 to 8 p.m., Feb. 12
• Canning Acidic Foods, 6 to 9 p.m., Feb. 19
• Canning Low Acid Foods: Fish, 6 to 9 p.m., Feb. 26
• Making Jams and Jellies, 6 to 9 p.m., March 5
• Pickles, Relishes and Sauerkraut, 6 to 9 p.m., March 12
• Canning Low Acid Foods: Vegetables and Meat, 6 to 9 p.m., March 19
• Freezing and Dehydrating, 6 to 9 p.m., March 26
People who complete all seven classes are eligible to apply to be a master volunteer in food preservation. For more information, contact Julie Cascio at 745-3360.
Then March 9, a second batch of classes is scheduled at the Cooperative Extension Service. Pre-registration is required.
• Pasta Workshop is 10 a.m. to noon and costs $10 per person. Learn to make homemade pasta noodles from scratch in this hands-on class.
• Sourdough Workshop is from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and costs $10 per person. Learn to start and care for sourdough starter, then use starter for some delicious sourdough treats.
