It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Corey Louis Frey, cherished father, beloved son and brother, and devoted friend. Corey departed this world on August 25th, 2023, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship, camaraderie, and a passion for creating structures that will stand as a testament to his talent for those generations to come.

Born on January 3, 1975, in Livingston, Montana, Corey grew up with a profound sense of adventure and helping others. Moving from Montana to Alaska in 1990, Corey developed a deep appreciation for the serene beauty of Alaska, including the scope of its rugged mountains and river systems.

Corey worked for Friesen Custom Cabins. He then worked for Gibson Roofing before his employment as a carpenter at Denali Construction where he built schools, clinics, and structures in Bethel, Quinhagak, Juneau, Soldotna and Galena. His work extended beyond wood and nails; Corey built bridges of friendship and community wherever he traveled. It was ultimately in Galena that he set his roots and settled into his true home. His time in Galena was spent boating the Yukon and snowmachining the mountains all while spending time hunting geese and trophy moose. Corey's greatest passion was fishing. He enjoyed the challenge of the fight and discovering new fishing holes. In 2015, Corey became the manager and bartender of the Yukon Inn in Galena and worked there until his untimely passing. Corey will be remembered by his patrons and friends alike for providing sound advice on designing houses, building boat cabs, and lending a hand with anyone’s project when asked.

If you were to ask anyone that knew Corey, they will tell you that his best build in life was his daughter Paige, who he nicknamed, Baby Girl and who he loved to the stars and back. Besides his cherished daughter, Paige Frey, he leaves behind his mother Donaldeen Dee Edith LaCombe of Wasilla, Alaska, and sisters Pamela Richards, Bonnie Frey, Saundra Scott, Shelly Krushensky of Montana. Corey is preceded in death by his father Robert Frey, and his son Triston Green of Wasilla. He will be dearly missed by all, but his memory will live on in the memories we share, the cabins and homes he helped create, the boats he crafted, and the countless outdoor tales that will be retold around campfires from Wasilla to Blackburn, Alaska.

Two celebrations of Coreys life will be held in both Galena and Wasilla. The Galena celebration will be held in the town hall starting at 6 pm on September 26th. The celebration in Wasilla will be on October 1st at the VFW Post #9365 from 5-8pm. Friends and family are welcomed to gather to share memories, honor his legacy, and find solace in each other's company. Both celebrations will be a pot-luck, please bring a dish and a story to share.

"May your foundations remain strong, your structures enduring, and your spirit forever free under the vast Alaskan skies. Farewell, our dear Corey
