Cory “C.J.” Michael Petersen Jr., 21, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away in his home on Dec. 9, 2015. Cory entered this world on Feb. 25, 1994, in Norfolk Virginia. He and his parents, Tamara and Cory Petersen, moved to Alaska in 1995. Cory was the first of their four children, and he took his big brother role seriously.

When he wasn’t picking on his brothers and sisters, he was fixing whatever they broke, teaching them to drive, or making their mom laugh to get everyone out of trouble. Cory was everyone’s go-to mechanic; he was always willing to help anyone out. He was a wonderful secret-keeper, and the kind of friend who would fight the bullies on the playground. Cory’s strong work ethic and stronger willpower really showed when he graduated from Alaska Military Youth Academy in 2010. Cory’s friends and family will never forget his contagious grin.

Cory Jr. is survived by his parents, Tamara and Cory Sr.; his stepmom, Lainey; his brother, Trevor; stepbrother, Christian; sisters, Anna and Shelby; and his stepsister, Brittani. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Janet and Jarrod Palmer; and his paternal grandparents, Marilyn Petersen and Brent and Marcia Petersen. Cory is also survived by the love of his life, Bailey Kindred, and a huge group of cousins, aunts, uncles, and brothers (and sisters) from other mothers. Cory Jr. is preceded by his great-grandparents.

Cory Jr.’s celebration of life ceremony will be held on Jan. 3, 2016. The family requests to be contacted about service details and flower or picture frame donations via Facebook or phone call. Monetary donations can also be made online at www.gofundme.com/cjpetersenfund.
