WASILLA — Credit Union 1 held a groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming Wasilla branch July 22.
Food and refreshments were provided by Bearpaw River Brewing which was also highlighted during the inaugural Mat-Su Member Appreciation Day.
This event was open to the public and featured Credit Union 1's 2023 Mat-Su Leading Change Partner, Kids Kupboard, a local nonprofit that offers fresh and healthy meals to children across the Mat-Su Valley and beyond.
Credit Union 1 has awarded over $40,000 to Leading Change partners this year thanks to fundraising and donation match efforts like those held during the recent groundbreaking, according to a recent press release.
“It’s wonderful to be back at our Member Appreciation events this year, and we’re absolutely thrilled with the groundbreaking of our Wasilla Branch- building a branch in the Valley has been a long time coming and I am so excited to offer our many loyal members in the Mat-Su another convenient option to serve them,” Credit Union 1 President and CEO Mark Burgess stated in the press release. “Come out and celebrate with our Board of Directors, staff, and members and help us support the important work being done by the great folks at Kids Kupboard.”
According to the press release, the new Wasilla location will feature a 10,000 square foot facility with bank tellers and offices on the first floor and a community room on the second floor that will be available for rental for meetings and community events. Somewhere between 30 to 40 employees are expected to work at the new branch.
Credit Union 1 is the only state-chartered credit union, according to the press release. The Wasilla branch project was led by Cadence General Contractors. It reflects Credit Union 1's goal to expand their overall reach.
