Daniel Grota Jr., 61, passed away unexpectedly on April 13. Dan was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Dan and Nancy Grota. He lived in many places before moving to Alaska, but once there, he knew he was home.
Dan joined the U.S. Army and eventually served in Iraq, retiring after 21 years. In retirement he pursued many interests, among them, he worked at the Frontiersman newspaper and also hosted a radio show on Big Cabbage Radio. Dan was a talented artist, loved music, and was an avid reader, often reading several books a week. He loved writing and playing his guitar.
Dan is survived by his mother Nancy, sister Debbi, and his children Vicky, Daniel III, Alex, and Dannika. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends. Dan was very sociable and made friends easily. He could talk to anyone, and did, on a variety of subjects.
Although Dan was taken from us way too soon, he leaves behind many memories and will never be forgotten. A memorial service for Dan will be held Friday, April 21 at 11 a.m. at Janssen’s Funeral Home in Palmer (6901 E. Blue Lupine Drive).
