Graveside services for Palmer resident Daniel Howard Qualls, 65, are Tuesday, Sept. 28 at noon at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Grisham officiating.
Daniel died Sept. 18 at Mat-Su Regional Hospital. He was born in Tacoma, Wash., on Feb. 17, 1945, and came to Alaska in the early 1980s. He had lived in Nome for a while and had lived in Palmer for many years.
He had worked construction as a carpenter most of his life and also did commercial fishing. He went to school for a short time to become a pastry chef, which had actually been a lifelong dream.
He enjoyed cooking and camping and especially loved his dog, “Bozo.” According to his family, “Daniel was always looking out for the less fortunate and would give you the shirt off his back. If he caught you acting up, he would call you a ‘Banana Head,’ which was his trademark expression.
He is survived by a sister, Sally Gorr of Monroe, Wash. and his friends in Palmer.
