Daniel Lee Adcock, 66, of Wasilla, died March 25, 2014, at home after a long battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be announced later this summer.

Daniel was born Sept. 7, 1947, in Fort Collins, Colo. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-69, including two tours in Vietnam.

Dan became a resident of Alaska in 1949. He and his family have lived on the original homestead since that time.

Dan had worked on many projects in Alaska, including the bridge across Hurricane Gulch, the Alaska Pipeline in Valdez and also as a heavy equipment mechanic for the state of Alaska. In 1990, he started a topsoil business, Adcock Enterprises, where he blended and delivered garden and lawn soil for 12 summers. He retired as shop foreman for the Alaska Department of Transportation in Palmer.

Dan was a loving, patient and kind husband of 41 years, father, grandfather, brother and loyal friend. Dan touched the lives of everyone he met. His life was spent serving others. Dan made a friend in everyone he met. There was nothing he enjoyed more than time with his family, whether working, playing, traveling, camping, building, spending holidays together and more. Words can never express the incredible man Dan was. He will be missed forever and always in our hearts.

Dan is survived by his wife, Christine, of 41 years; three daughters, Michelle Sande, Lisa Short and Lacey Rucker, all of Wasilla; two sisters, Lynn Bryant and Dixie Goldsmith of Wasilla; seven grandchildren, Olivia, Benjamin, Riley, Reese, Lillian, Brice and Jordan, all of Wasilla; and many extended family members and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Ellen (Needles) Adcock.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center at bit.ly/O6J7Bs.
