Valdez resident Darrel Lee Nease, 74, died Feb. 14, 2012, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.
Graveside services with military honors is at 3 p.m., Sept. 28 at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Those attending will need to meet at the Fort Richardson entrance no later than 2:30 p.m.
Darrel was born Jan. 11, 1938, in Washington. He entered the U.S. Navy Jan. 21, 1955, and served as a seaman until he was honorably discharged March 19, 1958. He had moved to Valdez in the early 1990s, where he lived until his death.
Darrel worked in many different trades, a jack-of-all-trades and master on none. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and pilot.
“Darrel was one who lived his life to the fullest. He encouraged me in everything I did and wanted to do. He really loved his grandchildren and was very proud of them,” wrote his daughter, Vickie.
Surviving are his sons, Dennis Nease of Marysville, Wash., and Tim Nease of Anaconda, Mont.; daughters, Vickie Mackie of Wasilla, Kim Lowe of Marysville, Wash., and Wendy Braach and Kelly Nease, both of Anaconda, Mont.
