Darrell (Scooter) Lankford, 54, passed away June 9, 2015, at his home in Wasilla.
Scooter was born Nov. 24, 1960, the youngest of four children born to Marvin and Shirley Lankford in California. He married the love of his life, LaVancha, in November 1991. Scooter and LaVancha made their lives in the community of Wasilla. He was a loving Alaska resident for 35 years and loved the outdoors. Fire pit socials on the back patio, beers and barbecues. He was an excellent cook and loved a good Sunday breakfast of biscuits and gravy. Loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys against the 49ers. He was a football coach for his son’s team and was successful in many sports as a kid himself. With much sweat equity, he took a great time and effort to make his home and yard a special place of comfort and peace for his family. When at his job on the North Slope with Norcon he was known as “Darrell,” at home and with New Horizons Telecom for 25 years, he was always “Scooter.”
His children were his pride and joy and the motivation for everything he did, his family said.
Scooter is survived by his wife of 24 years, LaVancha; children, Cody, Kelsey, and Carly; sisters, Norma Courtney, Shirlene Courtright and Teresa Blunt; brother-in-laws, Doug and Jim; and well as his wife’s side of the family.
In lieu of flowers, or gifts, the family has set up a memorial account at Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union No. 149777.
A potluck style celebration of life in Scooter’s honor is at 1 p.m., June 14 at 1151 W. Robin's Song Ave., Wasilla.
