Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

David D. Edwards, 42, of Wasilla died suddenly Oct. 25, 2010, at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.
David Dorr Edwards was born Feb. 10, 1968, in Biloxi, Miss. the son of Daniel Edwards and Maxine Rachow. He was raised in Michigan until moving to Wasilla in 1990. He was a Michigander at heart but loved Alaska’s natural beauty. When his health allowed, David attended King’s Chapel in Wasilla.
David’s mom will remember and miss his sensitive heart and his love of helping folks. David’s sister, Michelle, wrote “my brother was brave, loved life and was very sensitive to others needs.” His Uncle John Sample will remember his big smile and big heart. Aunt Marlene Sample wrote that “even in pain, he loved life.” His cousin Melissa will miss his laughter and cousin Jonathan will remember David as being “very, very caring!”
Survivors include his mother, Maxine Rachow of Wasilla, his father, Daniel Edwards of Montrose, Mich., his sister, Michelle, and nieces Olivia, Maria and Sarah; his Aunt and Uncle Marlene and John Sample; and cousins Jonathan Sample and Melissa Vega and their families, all of Wasilla. He is also survived by a large extended family in Michigan.
Graveside services are at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at the Wasilla Aurora Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 1 p.m. at King’s Chapel, 1701 N Lucille St. in Wasilla.
