Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

David Earl Mitchell, 67, passed away Sept. 10, 2014, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage.
David was born in Seattle, Washington, on May 29, 1947, and spent most of his youth and all of his adult life in Alaska. He worked in construction and was a member of the Laborers Union since 1970.
David served his country as a member of the United States Navy and was a lifetime member of the NRA and VFW.
David loved his home and his family as well as riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and fishing the Little Susitna River.
His family says, “David was husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa and friend. We will miss his ‘genius,’ his talents, his humor, his kindness, his gentleness, his love. What a man; what a guy.”
Preceding him in death were his parents, Dean and Phyllis Mitchell; and his stepmother, Nina Mitchell.
Surviving are by his wife, Gwen (Johnson) Mitchell; sons, Dean (Lee Ann) Mitchell and Karl (Bethany) Mitchell all of Wasilla; brothers, Gary Mitchell of Fox and Greg (Michelle) Mitchell of Anchorage; grandchildren Jaydon, Tylin, Kadence, Iver and Olivia; and several nieces and nephews.
We would now like to invite family and friends to a gathering at 3 p.m., Sept. 16 at home at 1560 W. Rivulet Ave., Wasilla.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel.
