Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

David Floyd, 71, died Feb. 27 at his home in Wasilla where he was lovingly attended by his family and friends. Dave was born May 9, 1937 in Santa Barbara, Calif., to Morgan Floyd and Eleanor Anthony.
Dave lived in California and Oregon then moved to Alaska in 1969 where he was employed by Enstar Natural Gas for 24 years, retiring in 1993 as a gas control supervisor. He was known there for his motto, “No problem, we can handle it.” He and his family moved to the Matanuska Valley in 1976 where he resided until his death. Dave is remembered for his love and devotion to his family. He shared his passion for gardening, birding and all the wonders of Alaska nature with his grandchildren Jordan and Hannah and with anyone he could. Those who knew him loved him. The words that best describe Dave are, “Everything honest, constant and strong”. We will all miss him.
Dave leaves his wife Gail, son and daughter-in-law Jeffery and Kristy Nelson; sons; William Floyd, Phil Timbrook, Jeffory Floyd and Donald Risdon. Grandchildren Jordan and Hannah Nelson, Christina Floyd and Brian Risdon, and great-grandchild Gabriella Arellano-Floyd; his step-mother Doris Floyd and his brothers and sisters-in-law Mike and Gina Floyd and Bob and Sandi Squires; and sisters; Susan Rice and Peggy Squires and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Morgan Floyd and Eleanor Squires, brother Gregg Floyd, infant son Timothy Floyd and infant granddaughter Kathleen.
The compassion of the Mat-Su Regional Homecare and Hospice made this journey one not to be endured but embraced.
Dave’s ashes will be spread at his beloved Crosswinds Lake where he and his family have enjoyed their cabin for years.
