Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

David Joseph Donn, 63, died at his brother’s home on Sept. 7, 2012, after a long battle with lung cancer and accident-related injuries.
David was born in Detroit, Mich. on Dec. 14, 1948. He moved to Palmer in 1959 with his parents Dick and Betty Donn. Upon graduating from Palmer High School, David joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. Returning home in 1970, David spent many of his remaining years writing songs and entertaining family, friends and strangers alike in nightclubs throughout Alaska, Washington, Florida and Tennessee. David was much loved and will be greatly missed, but will forever be with us every time we hear the family favorite “Puff the Magic Dragon.”
Surviving are his son and two daughters, Brandon, Lindsey and Natalie; brothers, Mike, Chuck and Jim Donn; sisters, Terry Wilkins, Laura Godwin, Linda Donn, JoAnn Richardson, and all their families.
In honor of David’s military service, funeral services are at noon, Sept. 28 at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery. A celebration of life follow at 3 p.m. at the home of Mike and Julie Donn. For more information, call 746-5930.
