Wasilla resident David Michael Borgesen, 66, died June 17, 2011, in Tucson, Ariz.
Funeral services for David were at Fairview Loop Baptist Church in Wasilla, with graveside services and full military honors at Angelus Memorial Park in Anchorage.
David was born March 28, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Byron and Jane Arlene (Moore) Borgesen.
David served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a quatermaster. He moved to Alaska in 1970 and lived in Ketchikan, Petersburg and also in Wasilla. He worked for the Petersburg Hatchery and Mitkof Lumber. He also worked as a commercial fisherman and with the Forest Service as a mechanic.
David served many years as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Petersburg and also Grandview in Anchorage. He was a true Alaska hunter who enjoyed Christian fellowship with his many friends and family who served his Savior always. He faithfully served the Lord as a Gideon sharing God’s word with the world.
David’s family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and devoted friend who would try to meet the needs of others around him. His unique and friendly personality will be greatly missed. His generous and kind spirit will go forward and live on in the lives of those he touched.
Surviving are daughters, Amy and son-in-law Kevin Cook of Interlochen, Mich., and Laurel and son-in-law Justin Toso of Wasilla. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shane Cook of Interlochen, Mich., Aaron Toso of Wasilla and Evelyn Cook of Interlochen, Mich.; brother, John Borgesen of Sturgis, Mich.; and sister Mary Jane Murrill of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Byron and Arlene Borgesen; and his wife, Patricia.
Valley Funeral Home and Crematory Wasilla cared for the family.
