Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Former longtime Mat-Su Valley resident David Pippel passed away May 12, 2008, at Hospice House in Harrison, Ark. He was 68.
Born July 21, 1939, in Palmer to Walter George and Melva Ann (Snider) Pippel, David Pippel served in the both the U.S. Army National Guard and the Air National Guard as a supply sergeant.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening — especially flowers. He was a member of the Anchorage Baptist Temple and attended First Baptist Church in Harrison. He was a life member of Elks Lodge Chapter 1842, a past president of the Matanuska Rock Club and a member of the Pioneers of Alaska.
Pippel is survived by his wife, Marion Pippel; step-daughters Shirley (Dwight) White of Alamogordo, N.M., Nancy (James) Dennis of Palmer, Janet (Joe) DesGranges of Harrison, and Patricia (Danny) Huddleson of Palmer; sister Karyle (Jack) Palmer of El Cajon, Calif.; sister-in-law Barbara Pippel of Wenatchee, Wash.; nephews Anthony (Mimi) Pippel of Palmer, Bill (Phylis) Pippel of Arizona, and Sean Pippel of Wenatchee; niece Kelley Pippel of Wenatchee; great-nephews Robby and Bill Pippel of Palmer; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granchild; and many special friends.
A public memorial service will be held at a later date at Anchorage Baptist Temple.
