Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

David Russell Thomas passed away at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center on May 7, 2016, with family by his side.
David was born March 22, 1939, in Warren, Ohio, to Russell Sage and Rosa Almeda (Fisher) Thomas.
He grew up on the family farm in Lordstown, Ohio, graduating from Lordstown High School in 1957. He received an Associate Degree in electronics from Valparaiso Technical Institute prior to joining the Air Force in 1959-1963. In 1964, he and a friend traveled to Juneau, where he was hired as a teletype operator for the Department of Highways.
In 1965, he was hired by IBM in Anchorage as a customer engineer repairing typewriters. He retired from IBM after 29 years.
In 1972, the family moved to Palmer where they built their home.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by two sons, Scott and Steven; two daughters, Kierstin and Marilyn; seven granddaughters; and his brothers, Tom, Scott and Chuck.
