Big Lake resident and longtime Alaskan Dawson Lamoyne Lindblom, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 17, 2014.

He was born Sept. 21, 1931, near Clegg, Texas, to Donald and Grace Lindblom.

Dawson was raised on a farm in south Texas. He joined the U.S. Air Force, and came to Alaska in 1960. That same year he began proving up on a homestead in Hatcher Pass, and maintained that homestead until 1974. He owned and operated D&J Airways, an air charter and flight school, from 1968 until 1970. He began flying, periodically, for Northern Air Cargo in June of 1969; years later becoming Captain and Chief Pilot before retiring in 1996. For years he was a real estate broker for Metropolitan Realty and Metropolitan Century 21 in Eagle River. He also owned and operated Eagle River Property Management for several years.

He lived in Arizona from 1970 to 1974, flying for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in their screwworm eradication program. In his spare time he took Bible study courses by correspondence and received a “Graduate of Biblical Studies” certificate from Liberty University. He received his Certificate of Ordination at the First Baptist Church of Willow in 1992. He was pastor of the First Baptist Church of Willow from 1991 to 1996 and was the interim pastor at Big Lake Baptist Church twice. He was Director of Missions for the Hatcher Pass Baptist Association from 1997 to 2003. He often preached, as needed, in the various churches of the Hatcher Pass Baptist Association. In the fall of 2007 he served as interim pastor of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Melfort, Saskatchewan, and in 2009 served as interim pastor of the Whittier Community Church. He most recently was the pastor of Community Christian Fellowship in Houston.

Dawson had the “gift of the gab” and never met a stranger. He was always trying something new, and had many hobbies, some of which were making/repairing golf clubs, woodturning, modifying equipment, driving tractors, boating on Big Beaver Lake, building picnic tables, rafts, greenhouse, play cabin; baking pies, cookies, etc. etc.

Dawson is survived by his wife, Yvonne; sons, Don (Khristi), Dawson Jr. (Cindy) and David (Kristine); son-in-law, Art Ramirez; grandchildren, Gabe, Daniel, Karina, Jared, Caleb, Rachel, Brandon, Richie, Jackie, Joey and Jennifer; 11 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Jacqueline; his daughter, Sharon; and his brothers, Wendel and Bob.

A memorial service is at 3 p.m., Oct. 26 at the Big Lake Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Big Lake Baptist Church, or Samaritan’s Purse.
