Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Deby Carlene Payne, 52, passed away peacefully July 30, 2014, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital, in Palmer.
Deby was born Oct. 7, 1961, one of five children born to Mac and Carolyn Payne. She was raised in Oklahoma and Alaska. She moved to Alaska in June 1980 and made it her home.
Deby will be remembered by her significant other, Dan Winters, Sutton; father, Mac Payne of North Pole; her beloved sisters, Ruby Payne of Sutton, Lois and Dwayne Pennington of Crossville, Tennessee, Mary and Ed Anderson of Monument, Oregon; her beloved brother, Anthony Payne of North Pole; and she was a very special aunt to: Jamie, Elry, Codi, Jessie, Sidney, Mandy, Mariah, Kevin, Guy and Steven; and a long life friend, Sharon Smith; and countless friends and family members who were blessed to know her.
Preceding her in death was her son, Brian Payne; mother, Carolyn J. Payne; and grandparents, Sid and Thelma Deaton, and Joe and Effie Payne.
Deby touched the lives of many people with her love and smiles all the time. She will be truly missed by all.
A gathering of family and friends is at 6 p.m., Aug. 8 at the Alpine Inn in Sutton. Please bring an appetizer/finger food for it will be a potluck. A memorial service will be held in Oklahoma at a later date.
