Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

A potluck celebration of Deb’s life is at 2 p.m., Feb. 5, at 830 Eckert St. off Maude Road. Please bring along stories and pictures of Deb. His cremated remains will be scattered in Palmer and Adelphi, Iowa.
Deb was born on Oct. 17, 1918, in Adelphi and came to Alaska in 1939. He worked for Neil Wright Pharmacy in Palmer until the 1970s, when he opened up Deb’s Pharmacy. He later took over the Neil Wright Pharmacy and made it into a Rexall Drug Store. In the mid 1990s he retired and closed the stores. During World War II, Deb worked on the road-building project to Eureka for the Army.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Elk Lodge in Palmer. He was given an award a couple years ago for being the only remaining chartered Moose member. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Ethel Lucille Anderson, on May 14, 2010. His sons Duane and James Anderson also preceded him in death.
He is survived by daughters Sally (Robert) Fletcher and Susan (Jerry) Monnin, both of Palmer; sons Michael Delbert Anderson and Robert (Mary) Anderson, both of Palmer; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Anderson of Palmer; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great- great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory of Wasilla.
