Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Delores Kay Pettis, died June 12, 2010, at Alaska Regional Medical Center after a long battle with breast cancer. A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Hilltop Assembly of God.
Mrs. Pettis was born Nov. 8, 1944, in North Dakota. The family then moved to Pendleton, Ore., where she became a nurse and served in that capacity for 17 years. She then moved to Alaska, where she met and married Charlie Pettis.
“She had a big, caring heart and always put others before herself. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends,” her family stated.
Mrs. Pettis was a member of Hilltop Assembly of God church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory and honor to Hilltop Assembly of God, Mile 59.7 Parks Hwy., Houston.
She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Charlie Pettis of Big Lake; brother, Peter Dietz of Pendleton; son, Gary Chance Jr. of Idaho, and 11 grandchildren.
