Denise Zehrung

Palmer resident Denise Louise Zehrung, 24, died Oct. 19, 2007, in a motor vehicle accident on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.

A memorial service will be at noon Wednesday at Wasilla Christian Church, 2201 S. Knik-Goose Bay Road. Wayne Lynch will officiate. Zehrung’s ashes will be retained by her father for her daughter, Jasmine.

Zehrung was born July 19, 1983, in Anchorage. She was a graduate of Burchell High School in Wasilla and lived in Kenai for eight years. She held a variety of positions, mostly in food service, and had considered re-upping in the U.S. Army Reserve, from which she was honorably discharged. She was an avid multimedia artist who loved butterflies and finding four-leaf clovers — and five-leaf, and six-leaf …

Zehrung had many friends in the community and in church organizations. She was an inspiration to many and was genuinely interested in the well-being of others. She was spiritually connected to her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her namesake, Dennis Zehrung and paternal grandparent, the Rev. Carl Zehrung.

Survivors include her mother, Matrona Prokopiok of Anchorage; father, Timothy Zehrung of Wasilla; daughter, Jasmine Zehrung of Wasilla; maternal grandparents, Lawrence Jr. and Sosepatra Prokopiof, and their sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the Pribilof Islands; and paternal grandparent, Leila Zehrung and family of Turner, Ore.
