Dennis Alan Sims

Long time Alaskan resident Dennis Alan Sims passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2024. Dennis was 72 at the time of his death. Dennis was born on March 4, 1952 in Pasadena, California and grew up in Yucaipa, CA. He moved to Alaska in 1976 and met and fell in love with Michelle. They moved to Houston, Alaska in 1980 and married in July of 1981. Together they ran their company, Alaska Scrimshaw Connection. Dennis loved to scrimshaw and made it his life's work, won several awards for his scrimshaw art and was a much sought after artist. He also loved to pan for gold, hunting, fishing, racing stock cars along with Michelle and their team Shattered Scull Racing at Capitol Speedway in Willow, AK. His greatest love though was his family. He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara, his father Vance, and his nephew Brandon. He is survived by his wife Michelle, his son Shane, his daughter Tanette, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, along with his sister Cindy, brothers Jonny (Diana), Terry, Tony (Chris) and Steven (Columba) as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. " Dennis was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends, and give advice about his art to other artists who sought him out. He was such an amazing man and will be missed forever."
