Wasilla resident Denver R. Bowman, 76, died April 26 of lung cancer at his residence in Wasilla..
A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. with a visitation at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel, 1015 S. Check Street in Wasilla. Burial will be later in the spring at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wasilla. Pallbearers will be Kevin Worrell, Craig Worrell, Rich Worrell, Jason Vincent and Lee Bowmen.
Denver was born July 6, 1932 in Huntington, W.V. to Denver and Hilda Bowman.
He came to Alaska in 1982.
Denver was an Army veteran and served from October 1953 to October 1956.
He was retired from Shelton Electric in Anchorage.
He loved gun collecting, gourmet cooking and traveling.
His family said, “Denver will be missed by friends and family for his ready smile and deep affection for loved ones. Always a “youngin” at heart, he had a special bond with his granddaughters, who called him “Grumpy”.
Denver is survived by his sons, Lee and Denny Bowman; daughter, Cheri Bowman; brother and sister-in-law, Rich and Pattie Worrell; granddaughters, Zoey and Dusti Bowman; niece, Brenda Lunkwitz and nephews, Kevin and Craig Worrell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Bowman; mother, Hilda Bowman; father, Denver Bowman and sister, Mary.
Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel.
