Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

DeWayne passed away December 29, 2024 at the age of 89. He was born in Pocatello, ID. DeWayne married Norma Furniss in 1955 also of Pocatello, ID. Together they moved to Alaska in 1964 with their children where they eventually homesteaded a 160-acre plat, built a home and raised their family.
DeWayne and Norma are survived by five Children, 29 Grand Children and 53 Great Grand Children. Their immediate children are: Pat Marley, Robbie Hatley Wuitschick, Tina Tubbs, Tarie Lacher Belka, and Shaeli Davis.
DeWayne journeyed through life with a determination to develop the homestead while working a full-time job. He provided ample opportunities for success for his family and others. Dewayne developed water and sewer systems for many Villages such as Kotzebue, Nome and Bethel while working for the federal government. He also helped the initial stages of the oil fields and founded the company Artic Rentals in Prudhoe Bay. Along with his professional accomplishments, he was a devoted father. His dedication to his family is evident in the kind and tender relationship he has with each of his children.
A funeral will be held in his honor March 15, 2025 at 12 noon located at the Palmer Latter Day Saint Church: 560 W Bogard Rd.
