Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

DeWayne J. Owen, 62, died April 13, 2011, at home in Palmer of a heart attack. A service is at 10:30 a.m., April 22 at Fort Richardson National Cemetery with military honors.
DeWayne was born Oct. 1, 1948, in Shreveport, La. He served in the U.S. Army and completed two tours in Vietnam. He lived in Arizona for 20 years and moved to Alaska in 1997 and resided in Palmer. DeWayne retired in 2008 from plant operations at Providence Alaska Medical Center. He was a member of the Church of Christ Temple Lot and was full of faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved guns and was a gunsmith. DeWayne was very loving, considerate, generous, funny and full of stories to share.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Owen and son, John Owen, both of Alaska; and daughter, Rebecca Owen and grandson, Tristan Owen-Taylor, both of Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to 3467 S. Sandvik Circle, Palmer, AK 99645.
