Longtime Alaska resident Diane Hodges, 67, passed away March 26, 2014, at her home in Chugiak after a short illness.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m., April 9 at the Anchorage Funeral Home, 1800 Dare Ave., in Anchorage. Her ashes will be scattered in Resurrection Bay in Seward at a later date.

Diane was born Oct. 12, 1946, to Martin and Betty (Eckman) Goresen in Everett, Wash. She graduated from Seward High School, then later attended AVTEC in Seward and UAA. Her careers after college included working at the Palace Restaurant in Seward, the Department of Labor for the state of Alaska, Peters Creek Medical Solutions and as a case manager for Nine Star in which she claimed was the ideal job. She was of the LDS faith.

“She had a passion for raising horses. She loved her family, and she loved working and helping people better their lives,” wrote her family.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Gilbert; and brother, James Goresen.

She is survived by her sons, Jason Hodges and Martin Shockey of Anchorage; grandson, Ethan Gilbert of Anchorage; granddaughters, Cheyene Gilbert of Anchorage and Eva Shockey of Eagle River; sister-in-law, Judy Goresen of Anchorage; nephew, James Goresen; nieces, Natalie and Kimberly Goresen; father-in-law, Luther Hodges of North Carolina; and life partner, Jeannette Eaton of Chugiak.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alaska Equine Rescue, P.O. Box 771174, Eagle River, AK or to Bean’s Café, P.O. Box 100940, Anchorage, AK.
