Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Dixie Lee Griffith, 71, was called home to be with Jesus on Dec. 19, 2013, in Olympia, Wash.
She was born on May 12, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., and had lived in Olympia since 2006. She also lived in Sullivan, Mo., Seattle, Wash., and spent most of her years in Anchorage, Valdez, Palmer and Wasilla.
Dixie was a certified nurse’s assistant at Valdez Community Hospital, Palmer Hospital and Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. She loved the Lord, and was the most giving, generous and caring woman.
She also loved fishing Alaska lakes, rivers, and inlets; including Prince William Sound, Seward and the Talkeetna River, and made four jet boat fishing and hunting trips on the Yukon River. Most of all, she loved her family, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her son, Mark; and daughter, Monica.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Vernon Griffith; daughter, Connie Rose; grandsons, John LeMar, Timothy Rose, Samuel Rose; and granddaughter, Laura Rose.
Memorial services are Dec. 30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
