Dolores Evelyn Kohring

Dolores Evelyn Kohring, 91, of Wasilla, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Palmer.

Dolores was born in Chicago, Illinois December 31, 1930, to Bertha Kuderka and Joseph Marshinx. In Chicago, she was part of a close-knit and respected Lithuanian community. After graduation from Tuley High School, she worked at a Chicago bank and married Heinz Kohring on August 19, 1950. They owned and operated a restaurant in Big Rock, Illinois. In 1963, their family adventured from Illinois to Alaska, living in Chugiak (Birchwood), Anchorage, and finally settling in Wasilla in 1976.

Dolores used her oil painting talents to create an impressive and cherished collection of Alaskan scenery. She also embraced the Alaskan lifestyle by participating in annual activities such as cranberry picking, hooligan dip-netting, camping, gardening, and traveling with family throughout the state.

While living in Anchorage, she was a children’s church leader and held Good News clubs in her front yard for the neighborhood children each summer. Dolores and her husband were some of the founding members of Church in the Wildwood in Eagle River as well as Wasilla Bible Church where she later enjoyed sharing memories of when the Wasilla church first held services at a local daycare over 45 years earlier.

Joyfully greeting her at heaven’s gates are her husband, Heinz; grandson, Aaron; and son, Victor. Dolores is survived by her children James Kohring (Sharon) of Gold Coast, Australia; Patricia Kohring of Palmer, AK; Charles Kohring (Paula) of Lopez Island, WA; and Heyde Hackel (Doug) of Mayfield, KY; as well as her 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Interment will be at Fort Richardson National Cemetery, where she will be buried next to her husband. A family reunion to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. The Kohring family requests any memorial contributions be directed to your local animal shelter or the Wasilla Bible Church children’s department.
