Donna Ann Grota of Wasilla, Alaska, passed away on June 2, 2017, at Providence Hospital, after a decade long battle with dementia. She was 58 years old. She lived life to the fullest in that short span. A Master Gardener and talented photographer, she lived the Alaska dream hunting, trapping and fishing. Donna loved nature and her knowledge of gardening earned her an award by the U.S. National Parks Service for planting and maintaining the Russian Bishop’s House Garden in Sitka, Alaska. She served as a ship’s cook based in Petersburg for a spell and a medical records tech in Wasilla. She was a resident of Alaska since 1983. Donna was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She is survived by her mother, Nancy P. Grota; sister, Debbi A. Smith; and brother, Daniel D. Grota. She joins her father, Daniel D. Grota Sr. and husband, Frank Brown, in eternity. A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, June 24 in the main dining room of the Mat Su Senior Services Center, 1123 S. Chugach St., Palmer, Alaska, from noon to 4 p.m. Pastor Rick Van Tassel will preside. Food and drink will be provided.
