Doris M.McKinley

Doris M. McKinley died Sept. 6, 2010, just four months shy of 100 years.

Doris was born in Cambria, Mich., on Jan. 11, 1911. She married Dr. Lee McKinley in 1933, who preceded her in death (1986). They resided in St. Claire Shores (Detroit), Mich., for several years. After their seven children were born they moved to Palmer in 1946. She managed her husband’s dental office in Anchorage. After retirement, she resided in the Horizon House in Seattle, Wash., for 23 years.

Doris attended Hillsdale College, University of Arizona, and the Detroit Business College. She was active in the Palmer PTA (President), board member of the Alaska State PTA, member of the Alaska Republican Party State Central Committee, and active in PEO, Eastern Star, Ladies of Oriental Shrine, and the Pioneers of Alaska. She enjoyed her family, friends, gardening, cooking and travel.

Doris’s children included Ira Blakely McKinley (wife Joan), L. Larry McKinley (wife Elizabeth, deceased), Judith Lorraine McKinley, William D. McKinley (wife Judy), Rodger Dean McKinley (deceased), Karen Lu Schwartz (husband Michael, deceased), and Steven C. McKinley (wife Beverly). She had 20 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is 11 a.m., Oct. 30, at the North Creek Presbyterian Church, 621 164th Street SE, Mill Creek, Wash. Remembrances can be made in Doris McKinley’s memory to the Horizon House, Attn. Philanthropy Office, 900 University St., Seattle, WA 98101, or to the North Creek Presbyterian Church Deacon’s Fund.
