Dorothy (Rihn) Boese (98) was born Feb. 2, 1918 to Charles and Louisa (Hickethier) Rihn on the

family farm near Bloomer, Wisconsin, the seventh of eight children. She passed away on May 12, 2016 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Joyce Boese in Wasilla. Dorothy married Carl Boese June 2, 1936 in Bloomer. Upon their retirement in 1977 they moved to Cherokee Village, Arkansas, where they lived until Carl's illness brought them to Palmer near their three children. After Carl's death in 1987, Dorothy lived in Homosassa, Florida for 18 years and then moved to an apartment in Wasilla at the Alaska Senior Campus in 2005 to be near her children.

She was preceded in death by siblings: Gilbert, Herbert, Albert, Melvin, Gertrude Kelm and Erma Steinmetz; husband Carl Boese and companion Bob Darragh.

She is survived by her sister, Margie (Rihn) Melberg; son, Donald (Joyce) Boese; daughters, Deanna (Larry) McAllister and Dorene (Richard) Eckman; grandchildren, Dr. Christine Boese, Tim (Bia) Boese, Lee (Kim) McAllister, Carrie (Jack) McAllister, Darcy (Don) McAllister, Wendy (Scott) Englehardt, Mandy (Scott) Jennings; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Madison, Erin, Jason, Kathleen, Chance, Danielle, Gabriel, Aaron, Austin, Ashlee, Anthea and Lydia; great-great-granddaughter Bailey; many nieces and nephews and Robert (Lee) Darragh and Mary (John) Schmidt, and special friends Skip and Debbie Christensen.

Dorothy's favorite of many different jobs was pharmacy assistant at Bloomer Hospital. She loved to play golf, bowl and cards, belonged to the Elks and was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, as well as active in the Lutheran Church wherever she lived.

There will be a memorial service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, located at 501 E Bogard Road in Wasilla, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. Her ashes will be interred at the Bloomer City Cemetery after a memorial service at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bloomer, to be announced at a later date.

Any donations may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mat-Su Hospice or a charity of your choice.

Since Dorothy loved to wear purple, the family encourages attendees to wear purple.
