Wasilla resident Dorothy Marie Ringhofer, 85, died June 24, 2010, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
She was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Haywood, Tenn., to Charles and Birdie (Sauders) Williams.
In 2007, Mrs. Ringhofer moved to Alaska, calling Wasilla her home.
“She was a lady with an adventurous spirit,” her family wrote.
As a young woman, she enjoyed flying with her first husband, Lee Canfield, and eventually became a pilot. She raised three children and worked very hard as a nurse’s aide for many years. Later, she worked at Cal Poly Tech College in San Luis Obispo, Calif., preparing meals for students.
“She loved walking on the beach barefoot and getting her feet wet,” her family wrote. “She also enjoyed classical and country music.”
Mrs. Ringhofer is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bob Jaujou, and her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Peggy Canfield. She loved her five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lee Canfield and Joe Ringhofer, and son, Ronny Canfield.
The family would like to thank the friends and staff at Knik Manor Senior Housing for helping Mrs. Ringhofer and the family in their time of need.
Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
