Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Douglas K. Peterson, 70, died Aug. 27, 2014.
He was born on Nov. 4, 1943, in American Fork, Utah, and lived there for 53 years. He came to Alaska in 1997.
In Orem, Utah, he worked as a roofer for five years and then for Geneva U.S. Steel Plant for 20 years. He was also a plumber and cabinetmaker. He worked as a custodian at Finger Lake Elementary School for 17 years.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, four-wheeling, listening to Elvis and playing with his grandkids.
He was a loving husband of 52 years, father and grandfather. He loved his family at Finger Lake Elementary.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Peterson of Wasilla; daughters, Tammra (Ron) Mangum and Angela (Joe) Spaulding both of Wasilla; sons, Tracy (Kandy) Peterson of American Fork, Utah, Blake Peterson and Brad (Coral) Peterson both of Wasilla; 10 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Sept. 5 at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel of Wasilla. Funeral services are at 1 p.m., Sept. 6 at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel. Burial will be Sept. 10 at American Fork Cemetery in American Fork, Utah.
